Our laboratory has recently launched a randomized controlled trial to investigate the potential benefits of creatine and creatine analogs in older adults. The study aims to determine whether eight weeks of guanidinoacetic acid (GAA) supplementation provides greater improvements than creatine in muscle function and biomarkers of muscle protein synthesis among individuals aged 65 years and older.

Preliminary evidence suggests that GAA may have anabolic and anti-catabolic effects through multiple biological pathways. This new study seeks to further explore these mechanisms in a sarcopenic population, which may particularly benefit from targeted nutritional strategies designed to combat this prevalent age-related condition.
