Probiotic for brain function in elderly

We have recently launched a new clinical trial examining the potential effects of a probiotic–vitamin formulation on brain function in older adults with mild memory complaints. Supported by DSM-Firmenich, this 16-week intervention study will evaluate cognitive performance, sleep quality, brain metabolism, and circulating biomarkers related to gut microbial fermentation and intestinal barrier integrity.

This topic is of considerable importance given the growing prevalence of cognitive impairment in an increasingly aging population. Safe, accessible, and evidence-based nutritional interventions are of particular interest as potential strategies to support cognitive health and healthy aging.

The study has been registered at ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT07410052), and we look forward to sharing the results in the coming years.
