Hydrogen and Parkinson’s disease

Hydrogen impairment in neurodegenerative disease

Our research group has initiated a cross-sectional study to assess the production of molecular hydrogen (dihydrogen) in patients with Parkinson’s disease (PD). Our hypothesis published in Trends in Endocrinology and Metabolism suggests that PD-related dysbiosis may result in decreased dihydrogen production, which could potentially contribute to PD pathogenesis. We have recently begun testing the first group of patients for dihydrogen production and intend to establish a database containing hydrogen production profiles within this population.
